Lachlan CMA Drought Assistance Package

A new package has just been released by the Lachlan CMA to assist land managers to maintain the existing level of groundcover on their properties & to assist community groups to keep social networks strong throughout the drought.

There are three components to the package:
1. STOCKPLAN:
Full subsidy to attend a one day ‘Stockplan’ workshop run by DPI.  These workshops look at feed budgeting and making decisions regarding stock management during the drought.

2. GROUNDCOVER MANAGEMENT:
Drought stewardship incentives to landholders who through the stockplan workshops, decide to establish ‘drought-lots’ in order to remove stock from pastures and stubbles and maintain groundcover.  The incentive is $2/DSE to a maximum of $10,000

3. COMMUNITY GRANTS:
One off $1,000 grants to incorporated community groups to help with the cost of holding social gatherings to assist farm families in coping with the drought.

Useful Drought Information Website
Each year the Rural R&D Corporations invest a significant amount in to research and projects designed to help farmers, fishers, foresters and graziers better manage the effects of drought.  Their research results, practical tips and tools for climate change, water use efficiency, pasture management and feeding livestock can be accessed through the Drought Portal.  Visit:
