1. Extension - Caring for our Country business plan proposals due to fires and floods
As a result of the natural disasters that have occurred recently,Ministers Burke & Garrett have announced the closing date for all Caringfor our Country 2009-10 business plan proposals to be extended t o 3 April 2009. 2. Caring for our Country funding to support bushfire recovery projects in
Victoria Ministers' Burke and Garrett recently announced the Australian Government's commitment of an additional $5 million of Caring for our Country funding to assist with the long-term recovery of agricultural land d amaged in the Victorian bushfires. The Ministers indicated in their media release that the additional investment could support a range of environmental and landscape repair work including:
- planting sterile rye grass in agricultural soils at risk of erosion
- fencing around significant vegetation and aquatic sites
- erosion control work on stream banks and around wetlands
- weed control programs in fire-affected areas
- assist with the care and rehabilitation of wildlife and habitat
Discussions are underway between the Australian & Victorian Governments to examine options for how best to use and deliver the funding. Further information about the process for these funds will be available shortly at www.nrm.gov.au <http://www.nrm.gov.au/>
3. Making a Difference - A celebration of landcare
A unique publication celebrating the achievements and evolution of landcare over the last 20 years was recently launched by Minister Burke.
This book, initiated by the Australian Landcare Council and coordinated by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry, is a compilation of landcare stories from around . Copies can be obtained by providing mailing details to landcare@daff.gov.au
4. Natural Resources Information Management Toolkit
Version 2 of this toolkit has been prepared by the National Land & Water Resources Audit and the Spatial Information Council, to assist regional NRM groups discover, access, visualize and manage their data and information. 7. SELN booklet - demonstrating the value of extension
The State Extension Leaders Network (SELN) has recently published a new booklet, 'Extension works: case studies demonstrating how extension enables change in rural communities that demonstrates the contribution extension can play to making a difference in rural '. It provides examples of how modern extension methodologies have been utilised in achieving real outcomes. The booklet is available at

8. New Spatial multi-criteria decision support tool for catchment investment The Bureau of Rural Sciences has developed the Multi-criteria Analysis Shell for Spatial Decision Support (MCAS-S) to assist people with a stake in land use and investment decision making. 9. Rangelands 2008 report - Taking the Pulse

13. FarmReady Reimbursement Grants
FarmReady Reimbursement Grants, for courses completed prior to 30 May 2012, assist primary producers and Indigenous land managers to attend approved training courses aimed at improving their capacity to adapt to climate change and increase self reliance and preparedness. Applications

The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program aims to preserve and provide access to locally held, nationally significant cultural heritage collections across . The CHG program is jointly funded by Department of Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts, National Library, Archives and
